Actually like the other said before it serves a great purpose. I know of a different way of double clutching rather than going through the trouble of putting it into nuetral reving up and then downshifting. This usually works best on take-off. Its simple...Launch normally and when one reaches about 4000 rpm's simply pop the clutch twice (while keeping your foot floored on the gas) and keep on going. This will in fact shoot your rpm's up and around 6000 and as everybody knows your cars maximum potential and best performance occurs at higher RPM's.
